"Judging by the 2017 copyright in the footer and the proud display of a 2016 TripAdvisor certificate, Da Paolo's website is a digital time capsule. While the restaurant might be serving up authentic Italian cuisine, their online presence is serving up a masterclass in how not to build a modern website. Slapping plain white text directly over a busy photo of the dining room makes the hero section completely illegible on desktop, hiding the very phone number customers need to call. If the desktop site is dated, the mobile experience is a complete car crash. It lacks even the most basic responsive design, resulting in text and images literally flying off the right side of the screen. Users are forced to deal with a horizontal scrolling nightmare just to read a fragmented sentence. It's less of a user interface and more of a hostage negotiation with the viewport. Then there's the bottom half of the homepage. After scrolling past a severely cropped, flash-lit photo of prawns that does the food zero justice, visitors are greeted by massive, mysterious grey and black voids. Is it a broken Google Map? A failed Instagram widget? A visual representation of existential dread? Whatever it is, it's taking up half the screen real estate for absolutely no reason. It's time to put this 2017 relic out of its misery and invest in a rebuild."
